Safety first, always. On the ground and in the elements, Chris Martin, a dedicated KTL Overhead Lines Patroller working on behalf of ESB Networks knows the true meaning of responsibility.

“Situational awareness is everything out here,” Chris says. “When you're patrolling utility lines, you’re not just ticking boxes—you’re actively identifying hazards, potential faults, and making sure the network stays safe for ESB Networks customers and communities.”

Each day, Chris and his fellow line patrollers head into the field with purpose. They carefully plan their route, securing land access, and then it's boots on the ground—often in rain, wind, or tough terrain.

“Bad weather can be tough, no doubt, but a good attitude and the right support from your team makes all the difference,” Chris shares.

“At KTL, help is always a phone call away. That kind of backup makes you feel secure in any situation.”

Safety is more than protocol—it's culture. KTL’s training is described by Chris as “second to none”. Every KTL patroller is trained to the highest standard, equipped with the tools, knowledge, and mindset to respond to the unexpected.

But beyond the technical side of the job, there’s purpose. “It’s rewarding knowing we’re out here identifying issues before they become problems. We're protecting the infrastructure that keeps communities running.”

And it’s not just the work that makes it worthwhile. Chris beams when he talks about KTL: “It is a fantastic place to work. It ticks all the boxes—supportive, professional, and full of people who genuinely care about what they do.”

For anyone considering a similar path, Chris has this to say:

“If you love being outdoors, are willing to work hard, and value safety, there’s no better place than KTL. It’s more than a job—it’s a career you can be proud of.”

As a trusted partner of ESB Networks, KTL is committed to delivering overhead line patrols with integrity, safety, and accuracy.
