KTL has been recognised for its commitment to sustainability after winning the prestigious Halton Business Eco Excellence Award, marking a significant milestone in the company's environmental journey and reinforcing its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions.

The award recognises the collective efforts of teams across the business to reduce carbon emissions and strengthen environmental performance across all operations. For KTL, the achievement reflects a concerted effort to embedding sustainability into everyday business practices.

Reflecting on the announcement, Sophie Gallagher, ESG Officer at KTL, said: "I couldn't quite believe it when they announced KTL as the winner, not because I didn't think we were deserving, but because the other nominees were such tough competition. I was so happy for KTL to be recognised for our environmental efforts."

The Eco Excellence Award highlights the progress KTL has made in reducing its environmental impact through a range of sustainability initiatives. These efforts extend beyond the company's head office and warehouses, encompassing fleet management, business travel and electricity consumption across all operational sites.

One of the key initiatives supporting KTL's sustainability ambitions has been the installation of solar panels at its headquarters in Naas, Co. Kildare. By investing in renewable energy, the company is actively reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions while advancing its long-term environmental goals.

KTL also monitors its carbon emissions on a monthly basis across Scope 1, 2 and 3 categories. This approach enables the business to track performance in real time, identify areas for improvement and recognise where meaningful reductions have been achieved.

In 2025, KTL partnered with a specialist consultancy to establish a more accurate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reporting database. Updated monthly, the system provides valuable insights for management and supports ongoing environmental reporting across the business.

The enhanced reporting process has also strengthened KTL's Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) submissions, helping the company achieve a B rating in both 2024 and 2025. Building on this success, KTL aims to improve its performance further and achieve an A rating in 2026.

Employee engagement continues to play a crucial role in the company's sustainability journey. Team members have completed Site Environmental Awareness Training (SEATs), while regular environmental communications, anti-idling campaigns and awareness initiatives help promote a culture of sustainability across the organisation.

Looking ahead, KTL has been approved to participate in the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), providing guidance on the development of near-term emissions reduction targets and a longer-term net-zero roadmap aligned with the Paris Agreement.

Sophie believes the award is an important milestone for the business. "Winning this award is so important because it shows that we are heading in the right direction in terms of our pathway to net zero. It has filled me with confidence knowing that our collective effort as a business is making a difference."

As KTL continues to strengthen its sustainability strategy, the Eco Excellence Award serves as both recognition of progress made and motivation for the journey ahead.
