1. Can you tell us a little about your career journey and what led you to join KTL over 13 years ago?

I joined KTL in 2013 while looking for a company that would give me a chance. KTL did and I haven't looked back since. I had no experience, no understanding of Telecoms or Utilities. I started in an admin role as part of an internship programme.  After completing the internship, I secured a permanent role and developed an interest in estimation, which turned me towards a career in Quantity Surveying. I progressed from Junior to Senior QS and now I tackle my next challenge as Commercial Director.

2. What attracted you to the Commercial Director role and what excites you most about the opportunity ahead?

The Commercial Director role is one of natural progression for me, as I have grown professionally and developed a deeper understanding of the business. I now look forward to taking on a more strategic role. I am excited to drive the growth of the company and the commercial team that we have built.

3. What are the key values that guide your approach to business and team leadership?

Being supportive is central to my approach. I would like to think I provide people with the same opportunities that were given to me. KTL harnesses a culture of continuous professional development for all and I aim to drive the same values.

4. For you, what stands out most about KTL and its people?

The family culture that is driven from the top down. Although we are a much bigger family now than when I first joined, I feel KTL has retained that core value – its focus on people. At KTL, progression is encouraged, training is facilitated and education is supported, while safety and wellbeing are prioritised.

5. What do you see as the biggest opportunities for growth and innovation in the industry over the next few years?

At present, the biggest opportunities for growth for KTL are within Transmission and Distribution. Our Power division has seen significant growth in recent years, and it is set to continue as we support our clients’ commitments. Our utilisation and application of AI tools will be key to driving innovation and helping to streamline process management, and supporting sustainable growth.

6. What will be your main priorities during your first few months in this Commercial Director role?

My main priorities are to continue growing the team and implementing further commercial management improvements to ensure we carry out our activities as efficiently as possible.

7. What do great customer relationships look like to you, and how do you build them?

Great customer relationships are built on trust and cooperation. From a commercial perspective, we build them by administering the contract correctly, understanding our customers’ needs and seeking opportunities to facilitate, streamline, and improve processes from the field through to the back office.

8. What advice would you give to someone starting their career and considering opportunities at KTL?

You reap what you sow. Always look for ways to improve quality and streamline processes and don't be afraid to make suggestions. Initiative and a willingness to learn can open many doors.
