Small improvements can make a big difference.

That was the message at the heart of KTL's recent Communications Day, where our PICWs and Supervisors came together to share knowledge, challenge existing processes and identify opportunities to work smarter and more efficiently. The day was built around the principle of Kaizen – continuous improvement through small, meaningful changes.

A key focus was the importance of quality surveys and ensuring information is checked, challenged, and verified before work begins.

Discussions centred on carrying out more detailed, material-focused surveys, confirming designs are fit for purpose and reducing the downstream impact that inaccuracies can have on project delivery.

By getting it right the first time, we improve efficiency for our teams, our customers and our projects.

As Dom Mackinnon Innovation and Technical Manager, explained:

"It was an excellent day for the PICWs and Supervisors to come together and take stock. It served as a valuable refresher on key information and highlighted how small improvements can help already efficient teams continue delivering for our customers."

The SHEQ sessions reinforced another critical message: never allow risk to become normal. Discussions covered risk normalisation, tolerated drift, effective rescue planning and the importance of challenging unsafe practices before they become routine.

Liam Scott, SHEQ Advisor, added:

"The most important outcome of any project is ensuring everyone returns home safely to their families every day. Safe work practices, strong planning and speaking up when something doesn't look right must remain at the forefront when carrying out works."

Thank you to everyone who contributed to a valuable day of learning, discussion, and continuous improvement.
