Today marks the start of #PrideMonthJune2022.

Each year, June is the month chosen to celebrate Pride in honour of the Stonewall riots of 1969, which changed gay rights for people around the world.

At the time, in the United States establishments in every state discriminated against homosexuals.

It was June 28, 1969, when the riots began. In the early morning hours, police raided the Stonewall Inn in New York where some LGBTQ+ community were socialising.

This community, which was accustomed to more passive behaviour, on this occasion united in an uprising.

Who would’ve thought that a year after the riots, we would start celebrating Pride Month and now we’re on its 52nd year?

Since then, the LGBTQ+ communities are celebrated to promote equality and inclusion and show just how far gay rights have come and create awareness that there is still much more to do.
