KTL draws praise for Glasmore-Finglas project

As home-building surges in Ireland and demand for construction connecting properties to power hits its peak, KTL has won praise for delivering Glasmore-Finglas 110kv LD for ESB in an “impressive, safe and timely fashion”.

KTL managed the safety and construction of the Cable End Mast 66, which allowed a vast overhead line network to be moved underground for a large building development.

The work started with the excavation of a green field, then the pouring of concrete foundations, steel assembly, erecting of mast, terminations of conductor and wiring of the sectioned mast.

“ESB has two main goals at the start of every project: safety - no incidents or accidents; and the work being completed to the high standard set out in the planning process by the PSDP – ESB International (ESBI),” David Hughes, KTL Project Manager said.

“It was a must that this project ran like clockwork as the mast had to be ready erected early within the nine-day outage window to allow the conductors to be terminated and all connections made,” he said.

“For that to happen, the concrete foundations needed to reach a level of strength that enabled the line works to commence. We strongly advised earlier in the planning that we use a stronger concrete mix to allow this to happen in such a short window, and the concrete tests came back positive, avoiding any delays.”

Evin Guing, Projects Supervisor, ESB Networks noted that despite working to a challenging timeline and with difficult land access considerations, our contractors produced an impressive result.

“Throughout the project I was always impressed during site visits with the knowledge about the job throughout the crew and the particular attention put into keeping the site safe,” he said.

“The project was delivered in an impressive, safe and timely fashion with any queries resolved promptly. This job was a credit to all the full delivery team involved.”

Mr Hughes said the work on this project reflected our overall fast and flexible ethic and exemplified well why clients continued to return to us.

“The KTL crews on the ground have great experience and need to be flexible to the demands of the works, as each day can sometimes be different from the day before. It’s great to be able to deliver exactly what the client needs and know they’re walking away with the best result.”
