In a world where many global corporations are reversing course and calling teams back into the office, KTL is proudly charting a different path. While tech giants like Google and Amazon, and financial powerhouses like Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan reinstate office-centric models, KTL remains committed to flexible working. Our approach isn't a short-term solution—it’s a fundamental part of who we are.
Even before Covid happened, KTL had many people working remotely, not as a policy but as a new approach. When Covid hit in 2020, KTL had to react quickly to the evolving situation and all non-site-based employees had to work from home. Thankfully, our newly rolled-out Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system made it much easier to enable remote working across the organisation at the time.
The team adapted swiftly, and as time went on, we realised that working from home (WFH) was working very efficiently. We measured the savings on travel, time, fuel and accommodation - they were immense.
However, the reaction from staff was the most satisfying part, enhanced homelife, less commuting stress, savings in the wallet and a more balanced home life only added to KTL’s productivity as a whole.
At the same time, we were also looking for ways to make joining KTL more attractive to people with caring responsibilities at home and individuals with disabilities.
The senior team made a forward-thinking decision: to make flexible, remote and hybrid working for suitable, non-site-based roles, as company policy. Sinead Larkin, HR Manager commented, “This has been a game-changer for recruitment. We no longer must advertise roles based on a fixed location. We can simply hire the best person for the job, wherever they’re based.”
The response from our team has been overwhelmingly positive.
Sarah Collins explains: "No commuting stress saves me two hours daily. I’m more productive and better able to manage family and health appointments."
Sinead Larkin who has worked at KTL for 12 years, shared: "Once the flexible working policy became permanent post-Covid, I relocated to the northwest of Ireland. I now live near the sea, just 15 minutes from Dunmoran Strand. On sunny days, I can wrap up work, hop in the car with the dogs, and walk the beach. It’s an incredible way to decompress after a busy day. The technology we use makes communication effortless."
Matthew McEvoy credits KTL’s policy with making his employment possible: "I live in Northumberland, and without WFH, working at KTL wouldn’t be feasible. The flexibility means I can drop my kids at school and spend time with my family after work. After being made redundant in a move to the countryside, KTL's remote policy gave me a fresh, family-friendly opportunity."
Preston Rebello adds: "Working from home is the best arrangement—it minimises commuting stress, enhances productivity, and provides greater flexibility for personal responsibilities. I’m grateful to be part of a company that leads with such care and understanding."
Jon Evans shares: "KTL is the first company I’ve worked for that supports remote work, and it’s made a huge difference. There’s less hassle and cost from commuting, and I genuinely feel the financial and mental health benefits. Plus, we still have daily team catchups—I really feel part of the team."
Victoria Anderson highlights: "I save hours each day on travel and fuel. WFH is ideal for managing menopausal symptoms without the discomfort of office temperature debates. I take proper lunch breaks, walk the dog, and finish my workdays with more focus. Even after five years, I have no desire to return to daily office life."
Davia Taylor offers this perspective: "I love working from home—the benefits are huge, especially for pet owners or parents. While I occasionally miss the office environment, WFH has let me slow down, manage expenses, and be more present in my life. Our team works well using Microsoft Teams—nothing has been lost by not being in an office."
KTL’s culture of flexibility has redefined the work-life balance for our teams. Built on trust, results, and respect, we’ve created an environment where people can do their best work—wherever they are.
We’re hiring for remote, flexible roles across the business.
