Job Scope
The role of the SHEQ Advisor Power is a supporting function to the organisation, SHEQ senior leadership and the project teams. The SHEQ Advisor reports into a designated line manager from the SHEQ leadership structure. This is dependent on the project which the SHEQ resource is assigned to and will either be a SHEQ Manager or Project Director as required. The SHEQ Advisor is to engage with the project teams and operatives in order to drive standards, educate those working on the project teams of hazards and risks, and advise of ways to improve management of the project hazards and risks.
Responsibilities:
The SHEQ Advisor will be responsible for driving SHEQ standards across several construction projects, providing expert guidance, and acting as a trusted advisor to both site teams and senior management.

Carrying out site inspections, field audits, and digital audits to ensure compliance with legislation, standards, and internal procedures.

Supporting the development, implementation, and maintenance of Construction Health & Safety Plans

Assisting in preparing, reviewing, auditing, and producing risk assessments, method statements, and other project documentation

Developing and delivering toolbox talks, on-site training sessions, and formal training to employees, subcontractors, and crew to maintain competency

Investigating incidents and near misses, including root cause analysis and recommending corrective and mitigation actions

Maintaining and supporting organisational and client health & safety trackers

Managing and maintaining SHEQ documentation and statutory records

Supporting environmental controls, waste management, sustainability initiatives, and the organisation’s efforts to reduce its environmental impact

Providing advice and guidance on safety improvements, risk mitigation, and operational activities to project teams and management

Supporting the SHEQ Department in delivering group SHEQ initiatives and ensuring the organisation meets its moral, legal, and financial obligations

Supporting the business in the internal ISO audit process and assisting with client audit preparation and assessments

Promoting the organisation’s positive health and safety incentives and employee engagement

Assessing suppliers and contractors for suitability to carry out work for the organisation

The SHEQ Advisor has the authorities as detailed below to ensure that he or she is able to fulfil their role and responsibilities;

Stop any and all unsafe actions which has the potential to harm an individual or the organisation, whether this be from internal or external influences

Report to the SHEQ Department leadership and Project Management any identified unsafe acts in order for the appropriate disciplinary and preventative measures be implemented.
Role Requirements:

Minimum NFQ Level 7/8 qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent).

3–5 years’ experience in a similar role within the construction or utilities sector. (Experience in OHL a distinct advantage)

In-depth knowledge of Irish health, safety, and environmental legislation

Experience with ISO-certified management systems

Confident communicator with the ability to influence site teams and senior stakeholders

Highly organised, proactive, and capable of managing competing priorities across multiple sites
-
Passionate about driving a positive safety culture and continuous improvement
-
Full clean driving license
