We are delighted to announce the promotion of Paul Korzeniewski to Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at KTL.
Paul Korzeniewski’s progression from an apprentice in the Royal Signals to Chief Technology Officer at KTL reflects both his depth of industry experience and KTL’s commitment to developing talent from within. Since joining in 2020, he has played a key role in expanding programmes and strengthening operational performance.
In his new role, Paul will lead KTL’s technology strategy, supporting the company’s next phase of growth.
Paul’s Career Journey
Paul’s telecoms career began in 1997 at just 16 years of age, when he joined the Royal Signals as an apprentice. Over the next 29 years, he built extensive experience across major OEMs and some of the UK’s largest telecommunications organisations.
Throughout his career, he has held senior leadership positions including Delivery Manager, Senior Manager and Head of ESN Coverage, gaining exposure across design, acquisition, build and operational delivery.
Reflecting on his journey, Paul credits the Royal Signals with giving him a strong technical foundation, paired with something equally important: people. “Managing and learning from world-class teams has been the ultimate catalyst for my progression,” he says. “You have to speak the language. A deep technical understanding enables you to design the right processes and consistently deliver the high-quality outcomes clients expect.”
That breadth of experience proved invaluable when he joined KTL in late 2020 as a Senior Project Manager.
Rapid Progression at KTL
Paul describes “hitting the ground running” on arrival, leading a major vendor swap programme during a critical growth period for the business.
As KTL expanded into new areas, he played a key role in bridging the gap between build and design functions. His understanding of both the commercial and physical aspects of delivery enabled him to manage complex processes seamlessly while maintaining high standards in quality and safety.
His impact was quickly recognised, leading to his promotion to Project Director within a few short months of joining.
In late 2021, he transitioned into Business Development. This role taught him how to scope, price, and transition projects effectively. That experience, he notes, “In telecommunications, strategy and delivery are inseparable. As CTO, I’m simply widening the lens from my business development role, ensuring KTL is delivering for today but also is futureproofing for where the industry is headed tomorrow.”
Living the KTL Values
Beyond programme delivery, Paul consistently demonstrates KTL’s core values: Safety, Health, Environment and Quality; Customer Objectives; Innovation; and People and Diversity. In recognition of his commitment to these principles, he received the KTL Values Award for ‘People’ in 2024.
Paul also maintains strong links with his former school, St. Ambrose High School in Coatbridge, where he has mentored students through mock interviews and provided practical career guidance. He has returned on multiple occasions to support the school’s early careers programme. One such conversation with former pupil Charlie Grogan led to the creation of a four-year practical apprenticeship with KTL, delivered in partnership with the University of Strathclyde.
These initiatives reflect both Paul’s personal commitment and KTL’s wider focus on investing in local communities and developing the next generation of industry talent.
When asked how KTL supports career progression, Paul points to his own experience. The company’s strong “promotion from within” culture. The “high retention and progression statistics” speak for themselves.
A Strategic Appointment
As Chief Technology Officer, Paul will now lead KTL’s technology strategy and innovation agenda.
His priorities for the next 12 months centre on three core areas:
Excellence – Delivering the existing pipeline with total client confidence.
Strategy – Launching a bold five-year strategic plan aligned with industry evolution.
Mentorship – Investing in the next generation of engineers and leaders.
From a market perspective, Paul sees significant opportunity in network upgrades, swaps and consolidation, alongside emerging growth areas including 5G Standalone (SA), small cells, in-building coverage solutions, and renewable energy solutions to enhance network resilience.
Looking Ahead
Paul noted, for a technology-focused professional, the CTO position is the pinnacle — “It’s been my personal goal since day one in telecoms. Stepping into this role for KTL is a massive honour and a challenge I’m ready to tackle.”
When asked what advice he would give to those aspiring to progress, “Be a sponge! Work hard, glean knowledge from every person you meet, and always over-prepare. Set clear objectives, and when you feel ready for that next level—go for it.”
We congratulate Paul on his well-deserved promotion and wish him every success in the role.
