KTL speaks to Dylan van Belkum about celebrating South Africa’s Freedom Day
South Africa’s national day falls on the 27th of April each year. We spoke to KTL’s Dylan van Belkum about what the day means to him and his fellow South Africans and how it is celebrated.
Dylan is a CAD Manager in KTL’s UK office.
“I enjoy working alongside the staff within the design team. We all have the same goals, and new ideas are always welcomed and encouraged. Between us we have accomplished targets that we wouldn’t have thought possible.”
South Africa’s Freedom Day is celebrated on 27th April and is a national day of respect and commemoration.
“Freedom Day takes place on the anniversary of South Africa’s first non-racial election in 1994. It is a day to pay homage to the country’s liberation from Apartheid rule.”
A typical celebration of the day involves a braai (Barbeque) or potjie (slow cooked food in cast iron pots).
“Unfortunately, the 27th April is a Tuesday this year, so there won’t be any rugby – another tradition of the day – but any excuse to have a braai with friends and family is a good excuse.”
