Happy Saint Patrick’s Day to all our followers, clients, and staff.

St. Patrick’s Day, which takes place every year on the 17th of March, is a day of great cultural and religious significance for the people of Ireland.

The day memorializes Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity to Ireland’s shores, and

celebrates the culture of the Irish people.

St. Patrick’s Day only became an official Irish public holiday in 1903 and the typical celebration before the 1970’s was very different from the flamboyant festivities it was become associated with.

Traditionally mass was attended in the morning, while the Lenten ban on meat was lifted for the day and families engaged in song and dance.

These days, the mere mention of St. Patrick’s Day prompts visuals of green dress, shamrocks, and vibrant parades.

These vibrant displays can be witnessed throughout the UK, the U.S and a multitude of diverse locations around the world.

Indeed, the elaborate festivities associated with a modern St. Patrick’s Day stem predominantly from those organized by the Irish diaspora in the U.S.

The customary gatherings for traditional Irish music sessions and parades will be absent from this year’s celebrations, however several virtual events will be hosted by the organisers of the St. Patrick’s Day Festival via the SPF TV online channel.
