Every success story begins with courage, persistence, and a clear “why.” For Jerry, his “why” has always been his family. After joining KTL, he was promoted to PICW within just 12 months, drawing on his experience as a seasoned Overhead Linesman and his dedication to his role.
For 15 years, Jerry worked as a lead lines man in the Philippines, taking charge of live line crews on a day-to-day basis. His commitment to safety and excellence earned him recognition, including a Safety Crew Award and recognition for Most Valuable Performance in Live Line Works. He built not only his career but also the skills and leadership qualities that would one day carry him to Ireland.
A new beginning in Ireland
With the goal of providing a more stable life for his family, Jerry made the brave decision to continue his career in Ireland and join KTL. Adjusting to a new environment wasn’t easy, it felt like starting over. The work methods, workplace dynamics, and expectations were different from what he was used to. But Jerry leaned on the same qualities that guided him throughout his career: focus, huge determination, hard work and a willingness to learn.
KTL’s comprehensive PICW training programmes provided the tools he needed to adapt, grow, and succeed. Step by step, Jerry embraced every opportunity to develop his skills, until finally achieving his goal—PICW.
Inspired by family, guided by safety
Jerry has never lost sight of his biggest inspiration—his family. Their faith in him fuels his work ethic every single day. As he often says, “Filipino linemen are troops—focused, disciplined, and trained for safety.”
As a PICW, Jerry carries a deep sense of responsibility. He knows that at the end of every shift, his family are waiting for his call. This is why safety, communication, and leadership are at the heart of his role.
Leading with purpose
The transition from being a crew member to becoming a PICW brought new challenges. Instead of receiving instructions, Jerry now gives them—ensuring his team understands the tasks, executes them safely, and finishes with quality at the forefront.
His leadership message is simple but powerful:
● Safety first, always
● Clear communication
● Focus and determination
● Positive energy
Jerry believes that patience and positivity make a big difference. “A good smile keeps everybody comfortable,” he says, reminding his crew that enjoying the work makes them stronger as a team.
Jerry is quick to express his gratitude to KTL—for their support, encouragement, and belief in him. “KTL’s care and guidance has helped me adapt and succeed in a new country and workplace culture.”
Words of advice
Jerry’s advice to others striving to grow is: “Give your best, strive hard, focus on safety, communicate well—and in time, you will achieve your goals.”
From the Philippines to Ireland, Jerry’s promotion to PICW is a wonderful achievement. It’s a story of how hard work, family, and the right support system helped him grow and succeed.
For Jerry, this is the beginning of a new chapter. Bernard Downey, KTL General Manager of Power commented, “We would like to extend every congratulations to Jerry, thank you for all your hard work and we wish you every success as you progress forward.”
