Building a diverse workforce at KTL

Over the past 28 years, KTL has earned a reputation for delivering high-quality engineering services across the telecommunications and power sectors in the UK and Ireland.

This growth has driven a steady expansion of both its client base and workforce, shaping a highly skilled international team equipped to meet evolving industry needs.

According to Sinead Larkin, KTL HR Manager, KTL’s people remain the driving force behind its success. “As the company has grown, our workforce has grown with it from a small local team to a global workforce supporting our operations across Ireland and the UK,” she explains.

Today, KTL’s workforce reflects a diverse and international culture. Many team members support projects remotely from various locations worldwide, while others work on-site across major infrastructure developments. KTL has also welcomed highly skilled overhead line workers from the Philippines through work permit programmes, strengthening its expanding power division.

“A diverse team brings many benefits to our workplace,” Sinéad says. “It drives innovation, improves decision-making, and ultimately strengthens performance by bringing together different perspectives.”

While the nature of the industry still presents challenges in achieving gender balance, KTL continues to make progress. Currently, KTL's workforce is 80% male and 20% female already above the industry average. Initiatives such as promoting careers through Female in STEM events and outreach to schools for the upcoming Overhead Line Technician Apprentice Programme in 2026 aim to further close the gap.

Looking ahead, Sinéad sees continued growth and opportunity.

“KTL is going from strength to strength. Thanks to the hard work and determination of the team, the company continues to grow each year, creating new opportunities to build an even more diverse workforce.”
