Recruitment Manager I Feature Interview
“Every hire has a tangible impact. Knowing that the people you bring into the business are helping shape the future of the UK’s connectivity and energy infrastructure is incredibly rewarding.”

Can you tell us about your background in recruitment?
I've been in recruitment for over 10 years now, working both agency-side and in-house.I started out in agencies, where I really cut my teeth on high-volume hiring, looking after clients, and finding the best candidates to meet my client’s needs.

More recently I've moved into internal leadership roles—focusing on talent strategy, tightening up processes, and working together with business leaders to bring in the best people.

Before KTL, I was a Recruitment and Partner Manager running full end-to-end resourcing. I also spent time at CityFibre as a Resourcing Partner, building strong relationships with business partners and agreeing resourcing strategies. More recently, I ran my own business supporting clients directly. Throughout it all, I've specialised in technical and engineering roles, and telecoms has always been my sweet spot.

What led you to join KTL?
I was on the lookout for somewhere I could really put my recruitment experience to good use—ideally a growing company making a proper difference in telecoms. Sometimes biding your time and waiting for the right opportunity really does pay off.

KTL caught my eye straight away. It’s got a solid reputation in the sector and has been on a really strong upward curve these past few years.

The Recruitment Manager role was perfect timing. It let me take the lead on building the UK recruitment strategy from scratch, partnering closely with HR and the wider business to grow the team during this massive expansion phase.

What really pulled me in was the chance to have a direct impact on the company’s growth. After a few great chats with the team, it just felt like the right move for me.

What excites you most about recruiting for KTL in the UK?
The UK’s Telecoms and Power sectors are changing big time right now.
What really excites me is helping move projects in these sectors forward by bringing in talented people to deliver results for KTL’s clients.
The people who are actually building the backbone of how we stay connected and powered up!
Every single hire makes a real difference. Knowing that the people you bring into the business are helping shape the future of the UK’s connectivity and energy infrastructure is incredibly rewarding.

How would you describe KTL’s culture to someone considering applying for a role?
KTL’s got this nice mix of being collaborative, innovative, and properly focused on getting results.

The company’s been going strong for over 28 years, and a lot of the people have been with the business from early on, that tells me everything I need to know about how the business look after their people.

Whilst its 28 years old it still feels fresh, agile, and forward-thinking. The business seems happy to bring specialists in and empower them to do their best work, I’ve felt that in week one already!

What does a great candidate experience look like to you, and how do you ensure that at KTL?
For me, a great candidate experience can be summed up in four words; transparent, respectful, timely, and personal. Candidates should feel valued throughout the process. For me, I try to treat everyone how I would wish to be treated. I make that happen by getting back to people quickly with acknowledgements and feedback, keeping them properly in the loop with regular updates, and having real, two-way conversations that are about mutual fit, not just ticking boxes.

I try to keep things moving efficiently without ever rushing big decisions, give clear details about the role and the company right from the start, and make sure interviews feel like proper chats rather than interrogations. Even after someone starts, I’ll personally check in to see how they’re settling in. It’s the little things that make the difference.

What key skills or qualities do you see as essential for success in telecoms and power infrastructure roles today?
Technical expertise is absolutely essential, but what really makes someone stand out is pairing that technical ability and experience with the right softer skills.

These sectors move incredibly fast, so adaptability is a must. We also look for sharp problem-solving, real attention to detail, and—most importantly—a genuine safety-first mindset, especially when people are working on live sites.

Collaboration and communication are huge too. You’re often working closely with clients, contractors, and different teams across the business, so being able to build relationships and explain complex things clearly makes a massive difference.

How does KTL’s hiring process support long-term career growth?
Our process is designed not just to fill roles but to identify people who can grow with us. We look beyond immediate skills to potential—asking about career aspirations and how candidates see themselves contributing long-term.

Once on board, KTL invests in development through hands-on project exposure, training (technical and professional), and opportunities to take on more responsibility as the company expands. For us it's about building careers in a stable, growing company where your contributions are recognised and rewarded.

What advice would you give candidates preparing for an interview with KTL?
Research KTL thoroughly—understand our services in telecoms, our key clients, and recent projects. Be ready to discuss your relevant technical experience with specific examples: challenges you've solved, projects delivered, and real-life experiences. Prepare questions about the role, team, and growth opportunities—it shows genuine interest. Above all else, be authentic; we value straightforward, passionate people!

What sets KTL apart from other employers in the UK telecoms and power sectors?
For me, KTL stands out for its proven 28 years within the industry. Aside from its wealth of experience the people-first approach stands out for me. The level of trust they give their team is rare these days, and when you combine that with the technical know-how of the team and a real willingness to think outside the box, it creates this brilliant environment where people can actually innovate and grow together.

Unlike some other places, KTL doesn't just chase the next quick job — they stay focused on providing right first-time quality, safety, and building long-term relationships with clients. That approach makes for job stability, and honestly, it gives everyone real pride in the work they do.

On a personal note, what’s your favourite way to spend your spare time?
Outside of work, family comes first for me. I love spending quality time with my wife and our little girl — we’re all about the simple joys, like going for walks or enjoying fun family days out together.

I’m a huge Arsenal fan (fingers crossed this really is our year!) and I love Formula1. When I get the chance, I like staying active — swimming or hitting the gym while listening to a good podcast.
